This photograph was taken in November 1972 when the village came together to plant a new lime tree to replace the damaged plane tree that had been planted to mark the Queen's coronation in 1952. Sadly this tree had been damaged and so we decided that her Majesty's 25th wedding anniversary was a suitable occasion on which to plant its successor.
The planting honours were carried out by Bill Ivey who was the oldest inhabitant of village at the time. The following cutting from the Southern Evening Echo includes this wonderful quote about Bill; "with his bushy white beard and with his dog Lassie, he brings rural dignity to his role as elder of Warnford"!
